CLIMATE & SITE CONSIDERATIONS

In considering human comfort and building design

we have to  take into account:

¨ Solar radiation

¨ Temperature

¨ Humidity

¨ Wind

¨ Rainfall

¨ Vegetation present

¨ Vegetation planned

As well as special characteristics such as:

¨ Lightning

¨ Earthquakes

¨  Dust storms and so on.

The climate of a given region not only plays a great part in the

composition of the soil but also affects the character of plants,

animals and the energy of men.

Climatic data from any given area must be collected and analysed:

Ş Monthly min & max temperatures

Ş Daily range

Ş Monthly min & max relative humidity values

Ş Average monthly rainfall and sky conditions

Ş Average amounts of solar radiation

Ş Direction &velocity of prevailing winds

Ş Frequency , likely duration and nature of extreme climatic phenomena must be established.       (they might be rare and of short duration but they must be considered in order to ensure structural safety.)

Ş Microclimatic factors come into consideration as the abundance  and variety  of vegetation present and planned around the building  will influence the local or microclimate

and the living comfort within it.
